The scene was electric outside of Los Angeles' Hollywood & Highland open-air mall on Friday night. A huge line snaked out into the streets, and much of the crowd looked strikingly similar: gaggles of teenage girls (plus guys, moms, dads, and little ones) in black T-shirts emblazoned with five key words: The Twilight Saga: New Moon.
Awaiting them inside? Autographs and a Q&A with the film's cast, plus courtyard performances from four bands who contributed to New Moon's excellent soundtrack: Band Of Skulls, Sea Wolf, Anya Marina and, to close it out, Death Cab For Cutie.
In other words, this was the Hot Topic-sponsored New Moon mall tour. And it was the hottest ticket in town.

Great news Crushers! We're going to be rolling out tons and tons of "New Moon" content over the next few weeks to keep you charged up and revving to go for the movie's big release come November 20 (we're betting a vast majority of you, however, have tickets for the midnight showing the night before though... right?). You got a quick sneak peek at all the treasures we have yet to reveal on Friday night when Robert Pattinson shared with us what shocking thing he came across when he typed his name into his Google search bar.
There is plenty more Edward and the rest of the gang on the docket, but while we get ready to unleash all of Larry Carroll's awesome interviews into the wild, we wanted you to have an backstage look at MTV News' interviews during the "NM" Beverly Hills Press event. So click on the images below and enjoy. Oh, and, please note how much Kristen Stewart's t-shirt resembles our backdrop. Great minds think alike.

The allure of the vampire is as eternal as its lifespan. Who in their right mind wouldn’t want to cheat death, to survive the centuries, observing the turning of the Earth indefinitely? The fact that you’d have to be denied the shining of the sun and be forced to feed off the blood of the living is only a mild annoyance.
It’s that fantastical headspace that Stephenie Meyer has capitalized on, anyway.
Meyer’s Twilight series — which tells of the adventures of the undead Cullen clan and the young mortal girl who becomes entwined in their lives — was a runaway success whose parlay into film last year only increased its cult of obsessive admirers.
Now, with the impending release of the Twilight sequel New Moon (opening across North America on Nov. 20), the young cast who make up its motley crew of bloodsuckers, werewolves and victims both willing and unwilling are preparing for even more international exposure.
But, as co-star Jackson Rathbone tells Metro, sometimes the spotlight can be scary.
“During the filming of New Moon, I decided to go across the street from my hotel and get a coffee,” says Rathbone, who reprises his role as the gentle, adoptive undead brother of actor Robert Pattinon’s lead vamp Edward Cullen.
“Suddenly I was cornered by a half dozen paparazzi, then a massive wave of fans came over and demanded autographs. Then, out of nowhere, without saying a word, a woman hands me her two-year-old kid and starts snapping pictures. Here I am looking at this kid and he’s looking at me and neither of us know what’s going on. I felt like chum at a feeding frenzy.”
Taking over directing reigns for New Moon from Twilight’s Catherine Hardwicke is filmmaker Chris Weitz (About a Boy, The Golden Compass). As actress Nikki Reed states, Weitz’s vision is much different and more appropriate for New Moon’s darker tone and expansive narrative. “There are way more special effects in this one, “ says Reed, who’s beautiful, blond and unapologetically vampiric character Rosalie still sneers at her brother Edward’s affections for the human Bella (Kristen Stewart).
“I think because of his experience handling huge amounts of FX in The Golden Compass he found a fantastic balance between the drama and the visuals. He came to the project with answers and solutions and that’s what we needed.”

As the number of days between you and "New Moon" continues to dwindle, you might think that you're all studied up on the second novel in Stephenie Meyer's "Twilight" series. But although we can't review the film yet (let's just say it rhymes with "Schmawesome!"), we have seen enough and spoken with the cast enough to offer a few fun, spoiler-free goodies that will make your November 20 viewing experience even more pleasurable.
From a bruise-inducing scene to house construction, a pivotal pamphlet to a fake flight, read on to learn five things you don't know about "New Moon." Then keep checking back at MTVNews.com daily from now until the movie opens, as we unveil in-depth interviews, clips and coverage of the latest installment in Meyer's screen saga.
TThe Swans Have a Not-So-Extreme Makeover
As any good Twilighter knows, the original film was shot in Portland, Oregon, but the sequels were moved to Vancouver, necessitating re-creations of such key locations as the Cullen house and Forks High. When production designer David Brisbin oversaw the "rebuild" of Charlie Swan's house, he studied the original location obsessively and created exactly what he had seen — with one key addition. Take a look at the "New Moon" trailer and you'll see a scene where Jacob leaps parcours-style up a tree and into Bella's bedroom window. In the original "Twilight," that bay window wasn't there; Brisbin, however, felt that the moment was important enough to make the tweak.
Hell Hath No Fury
Actor Chaske Spencer stands 6-foot-2 and put on 15 pounds of muscle to play Sam Uley in "New Moon." Kristen Stewart is 5-foot-5 and barely weighs more than 100 pounds. But when a pivotal scene called for her to punch and push him, Spencer left the set covered with black-and-blue mementos. "We did this scene and Kristen, she has a mean right hook," laughed the muscular Spencer. "She hits me — I think it's in the trailer. She hit me really hard, and I'm trying to be all guy-ish, show that she didn't hurt me in front of [the other wolf pack] guys, or I'll get teased. After 15 takes, ouch! She's a little firecracker."
Don't Go Booking That Flight
We don't want to accuse anyone of product placement, but when Bella and Alice head to Italy in a hurry near the end of "New Moon," let's just say it's very obvious that they're flying Virgin America airlines. And while thousands of people travel to Forks every month, they might not have so much luck retracing the Saga's roots this time: Virgin America doesn't offer flights from Seattle to Italy in real life — not even when you're in a hurry to save a loved one from exposing himself as a vampire.
A Little Light Reading
Moments after arriving on set, each "New Moon" actor was handed a 20-page pamphlet written by director Chris Weitz, who envisioned them as "orientation guides" for the cast and crew. Although he was the rookie and many of his actors were on their second "Twilight" film, Weitz's unusual document laid out his plan for the style and locations of the film — and encouraged the actors to improvise so that the plan could be taken to the next level.
Black and Right and Red All Over
In the original "Twilight," fans never saw Jacob's house. But in "New Moon" the run-down home on the Quileute reservation needed to be glimpsed several times, which had the filmmakers searching until they found an appropriate-looking shack near the forest where Jacob and the wolf pack would spend much of their time. The only problem? The house they found was green, but it had been described in Meyer's novels as a red house. Intent on keeping the franchise's obsessive fans happy, the whole place was painted red just for the movie.

On Friday the 13th, there's going to be a New Moon on the Oprah Show complete with vampires and werewolves. Stephanie Meyer has announced on her website that she is planning only one interview to promote the next movie in the Twilight Saga, New Moon,You know I've been doing the hermit thing this last year, in so far as media is concerned, and I'm not changing that now, but I am making an exception. I'm doing this for a good reason: I am so pleased and amazed and thrilled with what Chris Weitz has done with New Moon that I want to talk about it, and to show my support for him. And since I'm only doing one interview, better make it big. Really big. So....I will be on The Oprah Winfrey Show on Friday, November 13th."
Stephanie acknowledges that the questions for Oprah will appeal to a broader audience so die-hard Twilight fans may find the interview pretty basic. To address this, she has decided to answer the more specific questions on-line. The official Twilight Saga website will take New Moon movie-related questions, and Stephanie will answer the most popular questions on the Twilight Saga website and her own site. Questions can be submitted from noon (Eastern Standard Time) on Monday, November 9th through noon Tuesday, November 10th. The answers will be posted Monday, November 16th.
Since the Oprah Show on Fridays are live shows, anything can happen. Perhaps a visit from Edward, Bella or Jacob? Maybe all of the above? Oprah loves to use Skype, don't you know. Guess we will have to tune in to find out.

The floating continent of Reial has been divided by war and strife for hundreds of years. To the east, the refined, powerful nation of Ivona. To the west, the loose confederacy of Vohemar, formed by the struggle between Ivona and those who would not be ruled by someone from half a world away. And in between them, the Badlands mountains loom high, separating the two squabbling nations with its monster-infested peaks and deserts. The Badlands have been the battleground for these two powers for centuries and Joseph Falls-a revolutionary to some, a rabble-rouser and troublemaker to others-has called for the Badlands to unite and toss off the yoke of both Vohemaro and Ivonian colonialism. And underneath the surface there’s Denouement, an organization whose ends are mysterious, but whose presence has been felt across the continent. They are responsible for terrorizing the ground and air with bombs and kidnappings, the assassination for the old Ivonian president, and some suspect they might have ties to the revolutionary Falls. Everyone is always recruiting, whether they be Vohemaro, Ivonian, Badlands or independent-or even Denouement-but do not think their motives only run skin deep. Through it all, the people of this world sail the skies, trying to survive the turbulent times. Pirates, soldiers, merchants, thieves, actors, mercenaries, mad scientists, all of them united, despite their disparate views and allegiances, in wanting something better for themselves. Choose a ship, declare your loyalty, and fight alongside your crew to make your dreams a reality. | ||
